If 3/8 of the book were read the first day, 5/8 part were remaining 4/5 of 5/8 = 4/5 * 5/8 = 4/8 So now 3/8 + 4/8 = 7/8 have been read The 30 pages that remain must be 1/8 of the total. So if p is the total number of pages: p/8 = 30 p = 240 pages Hence the book contain 240 pages did the book contain.
